    The Inter-Activating Environments design studio operate on the premise that bodily motion and non-verbal communication can be understood as interfaces of emotional expression and cognition. The idea of creating a proactive behavior loop between the body, the physical and ambient space it operates within as well as the tools and techniques offered by contemporary new media technologies shall be a central operational logic driving the studio.

    Within the Metabody project, Hyperbody's agenda is to develop a pro-active architectural pavillion, which will, in real-time communicate with its immediate context (body movement, directionality of movement, micro-gestures, environmental parameters etc) via multi-modal interactions (sound, light, movement of the structure etc). Currently a fully robotic structural loop is being developed by the Hyperbody staff in collaboration with the Delft Robotics Institute and other consortium members of the EU Project. The structural loop and its movements will thus serve as a constraint, within which the students shall conceive interactive skins/bodies.

    In the 20th Century the (architectural) designs are customizable according to the needs and desire of the human being. But what if the design has its own existing, own feelings and expressions? Own behaviours?

    The human interaction is becoming a more important task of the architecture of today. The Metabody experiment 'NERVION' finds its inspiration from the human anatomy. The inherence and collaboration of components is at its most efficient. The ultimate relation between the brain, the neural network, the electrical data conversion, the muscle layout and the bone structure in the human body is translated in a digital structure. This experiment is the creation of a digitally driven body with its own emotions and movements. The visual perception of NERVION's expression is made possible by a division between the analogue and digital forces. The interaction with the human is an overwriting analogue force, while the movement of NERVION is digitally generated.

    Textrinium


    The main appearance of the structure is based on the mathematical embedded minimal surface discovered in 1982 by Celso José da Costa. The topology is created by puncturing a compact surface, therefore becoming a finite topology. The current design is a topologically thrice-punctured torus which is deformed until the planer end becomes catenoidal. The topology can be described using the Weierstrass zeta and the Weierstrass elliptic functions. The name of the project is Textrinium based on the interweaving of different components within the textile, architecture and mathematical geometry. Textrinium is a textile based structure that interacts with its surroundings by change in kinetic energy, shade shifting of colours by differentiating in resistance andintegrated sensors like ultrasonic and conductive wire. All the used components are part of the same knitted fabric. The structure is supported by an internal skeleton composted out of glassfiber. Extensive research in material systems, topology optimisation, stress and deformation simulation within fabrics, weaving patterns and fibre directionality, integrating (knitting) sensing, sewing techniques exploration, actuation and control systems within the textiles, thermo-chromic textile based applications, phosphorescence applications and computation numerically controlled fabrication are part of the research and design workshop.

    [S]caring-ami


    Project '[S]caring-ami' is a representation of the fear of the unknown and the misunderstood. It is about the understanding of what love can create and allow you to become. We invite you to engage with [S]caring-ami and unlock the creature's heart; to break down his fear of love and progressively turn his natural state of defense, to a warm embracing being. Collectively we urge you to show this misunderstood and scared creature the type of love he craves so he can learn to embrace you back. Through dialogue we can break down the walls and build up trust between two unknowns, the user and the creature.
